Welcome!

Dear parents and students,

It is hard to believe we are beginning the second quarter of the school year! It has been a pleasure to work with all of you so far, and I am so
blessed to be a part of your community.

This quarter I will try my best to contact all of you more regularly, even with just a short note or phone call to let you know your child is doing great! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns
you may have. You may reach me by email at kfoyle@sjvaz.net. I am also available after school from 3:15 - 4 p.m. in our classroom, 425.

If you have not yet had the opportunity but are interested to learn mor about the ACE (Alliance for Catholic Education) program I am taking part
in, please visit http://ace.nd.edu/academic-programs/teacherprogram/how-ace-works. I would also be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

God bless,
Miss Kelly Foyle

Welcome!

Religion - We are studying the Saints of our Church and recognizing God's call for us to live holy lives and follow in their footsteps. We will
continue to develop our understanding and appreciation for the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and we will soon begin focusing on the Sacraments of Healing. We will participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the beginning of November, and we will learn about the Sacraments of Healing, as well as focus more on the Sacrament of Confirmation. In December we will spend time exploring Advent and its place in our faith and community.

Reading - We will focus on improving our voice level, tone, inflection, and fluency when we read aloud. We will continue our work in groups to
help us with understanding what we read and continuing to find books that are right for us. We will compare characters and setting across books and cultures using fairytales. In addition, students are responsible for writing a letter to me in their Reading Response Notebook and turning it in on their designated day every other week. We are also continuing the BOOK IT! program throughout March. Find out more at http://www.bookitprogram.com/. Please encourage your student to read at home by reading with them, setting up designated reading time, or using other ideas. Please sign their Book IT! calendar log each night and t help them keep track of their minutes they spend reading. Thank you for your support!

Writing - We have become pen pals with students at my sister's Catholic school in Kansas City, which is helping us compose and organize "friendly letters." We are also working on sentence fluency, organization of our sentences and paragraphs, and connecting our writing throughout to the MAIN IDEA!

Math - We are continuing to work through the Saxon curriculum as we build our math vocabulary and understanding of concepts. In addition, we will bring in outside information to meet the standards for this quarter.

Social Studies and Science - In light of the election, we are learning about our state and national governments, including the 3 branches and their responsibilities, our rights and responsibilities as citizens, and other interesting info about our state and nation. In science we are
learning about the various landforms and how they form over time.

Welcome!

We worked together to write a prayer for our class. We will say this prayer together every day to thank God for all He has done for us!

Dear Lord,

Thank you for shelter, food, and water. Thank you for peace, happiness, and life. Thank you for our many blessings!  Please help the St. John Bosco Center.  Help us to respect others and work for peace.  Please keep our families, parents, and friends safe, and please take care of us. Thank you Lord!

Amen,
4A

Welcome!

We have spent a great amount of time focusing on respect in our classroom - respect for ourselves and for our fellow classmates. This includes listening when someone else is talking, saying "Please" and "Thank you,"
inviting others to play at recess and performing similar acts. This value is reflected in our class rules, which we came up with together:

Class Rules

1. Always wait your turn and listen to the teacher and classmates.
2. Always treat each other with respect.
3. Do your best work.

Consequences

1. Warning (s)
2. Reflection Time
3. Highlight
4. Phone Call Home
5. Office Referral
